How to Choose an ITAD Company the Right Way

Maybe your company has a pile of computers it never uses anymore and no one knows how much you’ve got on hand. Perhaps your organization just received a technology grant and it’s time to upgrade, and you need to get rid of your older computer assets. Or you decided to have a digital transformation this year, and your older computers just aren’t cost-effective enough to take your computer into the future.

Whatever your reason, chances are good that you need an ITAD company to assess what you have on hand and determine how best to move to the end-of-lifecycle for your data and your computer equipment.

We’ll discuss how to choose an IT asset disposition (ITAD) company the right way in today’s blog.

First, do some research on ITAD companies.

As with any major decision, do some research first before making phone calls. What ITAD companies are in your local area? Some businesses are willing to travel anywhere from 50 to 100 miles.

Once you find some ITAD companies on your list, look at their online presence. What content do they have on their websites? Do they list their certifications and standards? Do your ITAD companies offer several services related to assessing your computer equipment and end-of-lifecycle management for your data?

Look for testimonials from clients and customers. Also, see if ITAD companies list photos of some of their job sites, like having a truck parked in front of a facility.

Then request a consultation from your narrowed list.

After you narrow down your list of choices for ITAD companies, request a consultation with one or two. Ask them several questions before hiring one.

Depending on your needs, an ITAD company can:

  • Destroy data on hard drives, either through software or physical destruction or both.
  • Remarket used computer equipment that is upgradable to current standards
  • Follow your company policies for removing old computer equipment
  • Give you documentation showing precisely what happened to your computer equipment after it left your facility
  • Allow you or your staff to oversee the removal of equipment at your building
  • Consult with you along every step of the ITAD process from beginning to end

ITAD companies will outline their process for you during initial consultations and be your partner as you decide how to handle your used computer equipment and IT assets.
